SUMMARY
We are delighted to announce an event with Amanda Rubin, documentary filmmaker, and Robin Shohet, London-based psychotherapist, discussing The Third Reich of Dreams: The Nightmares of a Nation by Charlotte Beradt, now re-published in a new translation.
In 1933, Beradt began secretly collecting dreams from Jewish and non-Jewish friends, revealing the collective trauma of life under Nazi rule. The book, newly translated by Damion Searls with a foreword by Dunya Mikhail, offers a powerful insight into how propaganda shaped the minds of a nation.
Amanda Rubin uncovered the lost English-language rights while researching Beradt’s life, leading to the book’s re-publication with Princeton. She is also developing a film and BBC4 Radio documentary for Holocaust Memorial Day 2026. Robin Shohet originally acquired the rights in the 1980s and published the book in 1985.
